Back in the day before all the new modern slot machines, calculating the odds in online slots was not hard to do. If you knew the number of symbols on each reel then you should not had any problem in figuring out the odds of winning the game. There are 3-reel slot machines and 5-reel slot machines and the chance for a player to win is better on the 3-reel slot machine, in my opinion. Here is an example of figuring out the odds if you are on a slot with three reels and there are 15 symbols in total. You would multiply 15x15x15=3375. This would give you 3375 possible combinations of symbols. So the chance of hitting the jackpot would be 1 in 3375. Another example would be if you were looking at one symbol, possibly diamonds. If you want to find the odds of lining up 3 diamonds on a pay line, you must figure that each reel has one diamond on it and there are 20 symbols on each reel. So to figure the combinations if you are using a 3-reel slot machine, multiply 20x20x20=8000. The odds are that you have a 1 in 8000 chance to hit all diamonds.
The slot machines of today, in casinos and online use a random number generator, which makes it impossible to work out the game odds. Often times, the spinning reels are still there to give you the feel of the original games but don’t be fooled into thinking it works like the old machines. The odds with these number generators make the odds of winning much lower. There can be a chance of 1 to 500,000 on some machines and 1 to 1,000,000 on others. My friend, you may just have to depend on luck these days.
You also need to take into consideration the payback on the machines. There are two types of slots, Loose and Tight. When playing online slots, you can find the data about the games and determine which is which. Loose slots pay out better at 82% to 98%. You will also pay out more if you play high-denomination slots than nickel and quarter machines. The Tight slots pay out less than 80% and are usually in airports, motels and bars where there are not numerous slot machines like online or in casinos.
